Why is Body Detoxification Necessary for Bodybuilders?

The body has a natural ability to cleanse itself through the different organs that eliminate toxins and excess fluids. However, the amount of toxins that people are exposed to on a daily basis makes it harder for the body to rid itself of impurities. This is where body detoxification programs for bodybuilders come into play.

The importance of toxin removal

Toxins are the major reason for detoxifying the body. High toxin level not only impairs the body’s ability to detoxify but also weakens the immune system and causes other health problems. If you don’t help your body get rid of toxins, you are more likely to suffer from serious diseases such as cancer and heart problems and to become overweight.

Sources of toxins

You might be wondering where toxins that enter the body come from. Toxins are generally classified into external and internal toxins.

External toxins include food preservatives and flavor enhancers, illegal drugs (e.g. morphine and cocaine), medications, alcoholic drinks, heavy metals (e.g. mercury, lead, aluminum, etc.), smoking, air pollution, and pesticides, among many others.

On the other hand, internal toxins come from stress and metabolism in the body. When the body burns fats, protein, and sugar, this metabolic process leaves waste products that need to be removed from the body.

Preventing the effects of exposure to toxins

Constant exposure to sources of toxins leads to toxin buildup in the body, which starts showing its signs through head and joint pains as well as bloating. People with high toxin level in the body also experience chronic fatigue, poor memory and concentration, and low energy. Over time, toxin accumulation may lead to more serious health problems such as colon cancer, breast cancer, heart disease, Parkinson’s disease, obesity, and multiple sclerosis.

Aside from toxin accumulation in the body, there are other reasons for enhancing the body’s self-detoxification ability. Certain factors interfere with the body’s natural detox system. These include lack of detox enzymes in the liver, lack of nutrients in the body, high amount of beta-glucuronidase (an enzyme that counters the detox process in the body), and constipation.

With the massive amount of and frequent exposure to toxic substances, people must do all means to reverse the damaging effects of toxins. And there’s no other way to do that than body detoxification.
